['pænhændl; englisch, eigentlich »Pfannenstiel«] der, -/-s, Bezeichnung für einen schmalen, langen, halbinselartigen Teil eines Staates, der fast allseitig von fremdem Territorium umgeben ist (zum Teil bildet auch das Meer eine dieser Begrenzungen). Am bekanntesten ist der Panhandle von Alaska.
